River City Roller Derby is just about set.
The tentative date of the first race will be Wednesday, December 9th. The NIBU race staff will be doing some final shakedown testing of our high tech equipment next week, in hopes of having things online for the 9th.
The race night will consist of a 500 meter qualifying race (one where you are against the clock). Based upon your qualifying time, you will be put into a bracket system pitting you against another racer based upon times - each of those races will also be 500 meters. All winners of the round one bracket will move onto round two.
If you lose your first round race, you will move into a (in P.C. terms) Race Back Bracket (otherwise known as a loser bracket). This will give you a chance to "Race Back" into the main field. All those in the Race Back Bracket will race down until one person is left. That lucky, and most likely tired individual, will then move on and join the others in Round Two. From there, we race until we have one lonely stud. Our winner. This system will assure that everyone gets a qualifying ride, and two bracket races.
We provide the bikes, you come as you are (may that be in hipster stretchy pants, a legit cycling kit, or a Bozo The Clown costume you have been saving for special occasions). The bikes will be fitted with normal pedals and toe clips, so any type of shoe, short of an Eskimo whaling snow shoe, will work just fine.
Since this is going to be set up as Race Series, a point system has been developed to keep track of your performance during the season. During the normal rounds (Not including the Race Back Bracket), racers will receive one point for each race they are in. The winner of each race will receive another point. The last two standing in the Race Back Bracket will each get a point, and the winner of that race will get another point on their way back to the main group.
The final winner of the night will receive a three point bonus for their efforts - and maybe even a drink from the crowd.
Registration and minimal entry fee information will be posted as soon as those details are finalized - But I am thinking the entry fee will be around $5 or so a night.
Now for the bikes. Gorgeous aren't they?

Get used to this sight. These steeds are going to be set up head to head.

Just seeing that Panasonic makes me excited!!

3.7 gear ratio. Do you think everyone will be able to turn that with the needed gusto? I think the Panasonic is a 52/14 the the Blue Bird is a 48/13. Grind it out baby.

WTF Dude! I did not just spend 3 hours outdoors patrolling the NIBU perimeter looking for socialites/terrorists ,on my Gov. issued Pugsley for this! While I was on patrol ;wheels down in the muck and slop, you pansy ass assassins were plotting this indoor coup? This agression will not stand ,and there will be a meeting soon ..... to be continued....... Walter
