It's Dude, the bag man.

To assist you in the appropriate selection of your food carrying device, we are giving you a slight heads up on the products.  As devoted NIBU readers, you will have a preview of the items required at this weekends Cranksgiving.  Please keep safety in mind, bags of food swinging from handle bars, don't mix well with spinning spoked front wheels.

The photo below has the principal food items that will be on the purchase manifest.

Please keep in mind that no food item will be requested by brand name.  It is up to you if you like to purchase Jolly Green Giant, or Hy-Vee brand.  The items above are to give you an idea of size.  A few of these items will have multiples (i.e. you may not only be picking up one can of something, or one box of something - it may be two or three).  As the busy little beavers that you are, you also have the option of picking up MORE than what is required.

An unnamed rider and myself did a mock ride last night to work out the final details of the event.  Plan on 5 stops, and the event taking anywhere from one hour seven minutes for the speedy, and one hour thirty-one minutes for the "Don't Rush Me" crowd.

Cranksgiving is sort of a race, but it is primarily a fundraiser for the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank.  The prizes awarded for fast time winners are just for fun, and have NO MONETARY VALUE.  There will be door prizes given out after the ride, and all participants will be in the drawing for those.  Door prizes are actual prizes, stuff you would actually want (any monetary value applied to those products are between you and your eBay account).

The weather still looks good.  Maybe a little chilly (40's), but hopefully dry.  Your job before Sunday.  Find three friends who don't already know about ride, AND BRING THEM ALONG!!!

As mentioned in the post, any kind of unsecured item could pose a problem to the functionality of your bicycle, or to your face. I'd like to remind everyone, especially those who might be thinking of buying extra stuff, that there will be a "Miscellaneous" category, for bikes equipped with trailers, an Xtracycle kit, a tandem with panniers, or a recumbent with a pickup truck bed. So, if you're feeling crafty, bust out your old child trailer or rack and add capacity to your bike, and compete for Miscellaneousness!

Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck!

I love Cranksgiving! I have so much fun every year. Honestly getting a rack for the back of your bike isn't expensive, and you can just strap a milk crate to it. It carries a lot and is very stable.
