And the winner is...
…the weather.

What a night. I know everyone jokes about being on the "Epic Ride". I know there is always some debate about what constitutes an "Epic Ride". Certain rules, certain conditions, certain number of crashes. And so on.
Here's how tonights first Alleycat race could be considered an "Epic Ride".
A projectile vomit in front of the post office.
A crash on a closed bridge.
Wet leaves on every corner.
Spitting Rain.
7 Riders scouring the city for hard to find addresses.
A costume party at a bar - where cyclists in full gear fit right in.
A competitive finisher DQing themselves for not following directions.
A contestant with a semi tractor trailer air horn on a five speed cruiser
The hospitality of drop off site hosts with Halloween candy
Maybe a few to many blown stop signs/stop lights.
A couple stretches of sidewalks ridden.
Those are a few that I can rip off the top of my head as I sit, buzzing with the excitement of the night. I wanted to use this race as a spring board to the Cranksgiving event. I needed to figure out any hitches or potential problems we might run into putting on a larger event. Plus it would be a great event for those participating.

Plan on something like this happening each month.
This race was done over about 8.7516 miles. Here is the typical route taken by the racers.

Results of the first NIBU Alleycat race:
1st - Evan P.
2nd - Mike C.
3rd - Jeremy H. (Aided by a gimpy Mark W.) Jeremy actually won the DFL award - sort of.
DQ - Russ R. (Self Reporting DQ - what a guy!)
DNF - Jim K. (Circle Terrace threw a wrench in Jim's race)
I rode the ride as a conscientious observer, and a NIBU friend Jake H. was the onsite official.
Like stated in a previous posting - you all... all the readers of this blog, have been deputized into the NIBU Fun Patrol as potential event think-r-upers. Ever had that feeling like you wanted to do some event , or be apart of some ride but just wasn't sure how to put it on, or if anyone else would think it was cool enough to come? Well, that is how this Alleycat happened. I have always wanted to do one - but never had the chance. Now it exists. Because I wanted to do one. I wanted to be apart of one. You will it, and it is no dream. You can do that also. We have a forum for this now - lets make something happen.
Thanks to all those how participated. Thanks to Wok & Roll, Borealis, Lorado's, and Little Chicago for allowing us to have pick ups at their businesses. Thanks to the Follmuths, Craws, Follmuths, and Isaaks for being delivery sites. It was fantastic. See you in two weeks at Cranksgiving.

Had a blast!!
